You can either install the free version or spring for WP Optin Wheel Pro directly available from Studio Wombat. For this review, we’re using Pro (so please be aware that not all features may be available in the free or standard version). Either way, installing WP Optin Wheel is easy, just like installing any other WordPress plugin.

Without further ado, navigate to Plugins > Add New on your WordPress admin menu as shown below.

As we highlight in the image below, you can 1) upload WP Optin Wheel Pro from your computer, 2) search the free version from the WordPress plugin repository, and 3) install/activate the plugin.

We shall install WP Optin Wheel Pro from our computer, meaning you need to click the Upload Plugin button in the image above.

Next, upload the plugin and activate it as we detail in the screenshot below.

Once the plugin is active, navigate to Settings > WP Optin Wheel Pro on your WordPress admin menu as we show below.

Next, you need to activate the WP Optin Wheel license key you received from the developer. Just copy-paste the key in the field and hit the Activate License button as we show below.

Upon activation, WP Optin Wheel launches the admin options panel where you can see a couple of tabs including General Settings, Integrations, Add Wheel and Wheels.

At this juncture, your WP Optin Wheel plugin is ready to use. Now, we just need to create a wheel of fortune. At this point, you can also choose to integrate the plugin with your favorite tools, e.g. MailChimp.

How to Create a Wheel of Fortune

Click the Add Wheel tab to launch the screen below.

On this screen, name your wheel for easy reference and then choose the tool you’d like to use to capture opt-ins. Note, you must first integrate your tool of choice but, WordPress and Zapier are already integrated by default. When done, hit the Next button.

The Design panel helps you to customize your wheel and opt-in form in ways unimaginable. Here, you get plenty of options such as backgrounds, themes, and colors. See the image below.

Choose your theme, background, and colors. After that, click the Next button.

Next, we have the Form Builder, which helps you create an opt-in form. It ships with a range of form fields (depending on the opt-in tool you choose in the first step) to create the perfect form.

We recommend keeping your opt-in form short; one or two fields are enough. Personally, I would ask for the email address only. Build your opt-in form and hit the Next button.

Next, we have the Chances & Slices screen, where you can customize your wheel slices extensively. You can also define chance to take full control over probability and decide which slice wins or loses.

Edit your slices to your heart’s content and click the Next button.

Finally, we have the Settings screen as shown below.

Here, you can define plenty of options for your wheel. You can choose your spin-button text, add disclaimer text, set winning/losing text, show/hide the wheel on certain pages, set exit-intent, secure your wheel of fortune, create email templates and make your form GDPR compliant among other things.

When you’re done, hit the Save button. Your wheel of fortune is now ready, and you should see it on your website after refreshing.

WP Optin Wheel comes in a few different flavors. There is the forever free version available on WordPress.org that comes with basic features and is ideal for testing purposes.

WP Optin Wheel Pro, which we’ve reviewed, is only available on Studio Wombat’s site. There you can find a $39 package meant for a single site.
