About WPExplorer

Hi there, my name is AJ Clarke and I’m the owner and creator of WPExplorer.com where we share WordPress related articles, guides, tutorials, tips, how-to’s and more! I started this site back in October 2009 where I would share mostly guides for creating WordPress themes and tons of free themes I developed for the community.

I got started with WordPress during a college internship where I needed to help with website maintenance and converting static html sites into dynamic wp sites. Back then there were very little resources for WordPress development. You had to rely primarily on the WordPress Codex or look at the default WP themes to see how they were built. So I created the site to help share some guides and themes I created (most of which don’t exist anymore as they’ve been deprecated).

As time went by, WPExplorer turned into more of a directory where I would share links to free and premium themes & plugins that I found appealing. This became a directory where you could easily browse through different niche categories to find the right theme for you. But towards the end of 2017 we decided to switch back to a blog format focused mostly on helping others with useful articles and guides.

The site is now maintained mostly by my wife Kyla Glover with the help of our amazing group of experienced writers and WordPress experts. I personally dedicate my time to theme and plugin development and writing our “learn to code” articles.

So this is where we are at now… a massive blog aimed at helping the beginners and experts alike in the field. We also develop themes and plugins including the very popular Total WordPress theme (and if you have ever purchased the theme, I may have had the pleasure in assisting you through your journey as I provide support for the theme via the item comments and often via the support portal).

WPExplorer Socials

Yes, we are on social media! Be sure to follow us on all the platforms so you can keep up with our latest articles and updates. Also don’t be afraid to share and let others know about us – thank you!

Our Products

Over the years we’ve created many free and premium products (literally hundreds) many of which have been deprecated. Here are some of the most popular products we are actively maintaining and supporting.

  • Total WordPress Theme: We’ve created many free themes and top selling premium themes but our primary focus is on the development of our Total theme as mentioned earlier which is our most popular product to date and is constantly evolving. Total was released back in December of 2013 and has been a top selling item on the Envato market ever since. Going through many iterations and updates as WordPress has evolved so has our theme. And our customer base grows on the daily! It’s used on top sites such as the University of Hawaii and freelance sites like PointerAdvertising.com.
  • Post Types Unlimited: A free WordPress plugin for easily adding Custom Post Types and taxonomies to your site. Integrates nicely with our Total theme but will work with any theme. It’s arguably the best plugin for custom post types. It’s clean and non-bloated without any upsells or ads.
  • Just Events: A free minimal plugin for adding events to your WordPress site. Works seamlessly with our Total theme but has also been built for use with WordPress block themes. Includes only the necessary things for adding events to your site without all the added bloat of other event plugins
  • Easy Notification Bar: A free plugin for adding a notification to the top of your site. Supports different placement options, callout button, sticky and dismissal.
  • WordPress.org Repo: Be sure to check out our WordPress.org profile to see all the other themes and plugins we’ve built.

Branding

Our branding has changed over the years but it’s primarily revolved around a telescope for our icon and a blue color. Below is the logo we use across all social media.

When it comes to trademarks, we currently have registered and own the trademarks for the following words in our industry:

  • WPExplorer
  • Total

So please be sure to respect our trademarks. If you are going to use either of these words, be sure to link back to us and/or mention that you are not the owner of such trademark. Thank you!

Donations

It’s very expensive and time consuming to build and maintain free themes, plugins and articles intended for the WordPress community. I HATE adding donation popups or advertisements inside my free products so generally stay away from it. If you are someone who loves our site and/products and would love to give back you can send a donation here.
