Best Religious Church WordPress Themes

Religious organizations require affordable website options that allow them to keep the bulk of their resources available for the work they were created to do. WordPress is fast, easy to learn and use, and offers a vast number of website theme options. Plus WordPress is probably one of the most affordable website options available since any level of user can purchase and upload a theme to create their website (no developer required).

For a religious organization or church WordPress theme, there are a few features you must have. It’s very important to have organized information. Visitors should be able to easily understand your message or purpose. A layout with focused key features (such as mission, programs, services, etc.) and a responsive layout are ideal. A built in donation system is also a great feature to look for, but think of this as a bonus since you can always install a donations WordPress plugin later on.

Keeping all of the above in mind, I searched high and low for awesome theme options that I thought you might like. Check out our top picks for the best church WordPress themes below!

For your information: using the red cross emblem is against the law – unless you are the Red Cross. Using the “WordPress Aid” theme you have included, will result in somebody getting a letter from the legal department, so I would strongly suggest you remove it from the otherwise very good list.

    • AJ Clarke

That’s a good point. The author of the theme wasn’t too careful when they created their demo and probably should remove it Or at least use a different color since the trademark consists of the red cross on the white background. If the subject was different it would be fine, but doe to his use of the terms aid/charity in the theme it could seen as an infringement. Although highly unlikely anyone would ever care to pursue such a small case.

      • davidwpowell

There’s a kind of irony here. The designer hasn’t drawn a red cross on a white background – it’s the reverse: basically a Swiss flag. *That* may be contentious! The irony is that Red Cross itself adopted the Swiss flag and reversed it for itself. In honour, I understand, of the country from which it was conceived. Wonder how that would go these days!

You have made great collection of Themes. Thanks.

  7. Arne

I also don’t understand the exact need of a church theme or a non-profit theme. Why should they be different from any other theme? To me almost all of these examples are the same as many others only with some church / environment related stock pictures.

    • AJ Clarke

      Hi Arne,

The designs are a bit different, remember most people aren’t developers so they can’t really re-design a theme to match the look they want. These themes have designs that are bit more focused towards the niche. Also some include extended features such as calendar/events.

  8. Jessica

The image shown is not a copyright image. And the reverse of a plain red cross on a white background is safe for anyone to use as it is not only used by a medical organisation as one of at least three symbols in use but is also the flag of England, the cross of St George internationally and is thus unable to be copyright as it has been in common usage since at least the 12th century. Not sure the Red Cross would waste their time trying to sue the millions of users around the world that use a red cross on a white background. After all an icon is a square so the Gross of St George as a rectangle becomes a square in web use 🙂

    • Kyla

Well said! Thanks for the info 🙂

  13. Hardik Surani

Great list of themes and specially Biosphere, Savior and Foundation are looking very good and simple to use. Thank you for sharing this list. Apart from theme another essential element of Church websites is receiving donation through a form. I know the article is related to theme but I would like to suggest a WordPress plugin “WP Church Donation” specially designed for Church websites to accept donation using Authorize.Net credit card processing. Also there are other features as well like Donation list, Donor information, dynamic thank you message and thank you email content management, etc.. The plugin is free but having good features. https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-church-donation/
