It’s time to say hello to WordPress 3.6 and get acquainted with what’s new. There were just a few major changes that you’ll have to get used to but they’re all good ones, I promise!
New Menu System
Not too much has changed in the admin panel except for the menu system. It’s a bit different from before which might seem confusing at first because you can create menus on one tab and assign them to location on another. Have a look at out video to get a better idea of how to use the new menus.
Better Post Revisions
The whole post revisions function has finally gotten a much needed update. It’s not a lot easier to “go back in time” and check your revisions and see what has changed and make your edits/updates accordingly.
HTML5 Media Player
Another great new feature is the built in HTML5 media player. This means you can upload and share audio or video files without having to go through a thrid party service like YouTube or Vimeo. Unless you are kucky enough to have a massive amount of server space, I think this new feature is best suited for uploading a few videos or albums (nothing too crazy) to share with your readers.
Post Locking & Autosave
For WordPress websites with multiple owners, contributors and authors the new post locking and autosave features are very useful. In WordPress 3.6 content that you’re editing on is autosaved to your own stream (locally and on your server). For those of us who have a bad habit of back-swiping the magic mouse on accident this is fantastic – no more retyping your hard work! The post locking is great because it warns you if another team member is working on content that you’re trying to open. There is an option to “Take Over” but let’s pretend that the people you work with won’t interrupt you unless absolutely necessary.
New WordPress Theme – Twenty Thirteen
Of course with every new version of WordPress there is also a new free default theme added. The Twenty Thirteen WordPress theme is more of a blog/tumblog style theme that is much more colorful the future versions and is of course responsive and supports various post formats.
