Theme Guide For Adapt WordPress Theme

A short video showing you how to use the Adapt WordPress theme and setup the main features. The theme is super easy to use so the guide is only a few minutes short and I don’t go into huge detail on certain things. I expect you’ll know how to create/publish posts and pages as well as add featured images.

Forgive the background noise, forgot I had the fan on!

Hi, this is AJ from WPExplorer.com and this is a quick guide to the Adapt WordPress Theme. I’ll be showing you how to setup your main elements such as the slider, portfolio and blog so it’s much easier for you to get your site up and running with my theme.

First you’ll want to log into WordPress and make sure under Settings -> Reading you have the default options set to “the front page displays” -> “your latest posts” because the theme does not use a static page for the home layout.

Next you’ll want to go to Appearance -> Theme Settings and upload a logo, favicon and customize your homepage headings.
Once you do that you can click on HP Slides to setup your homepage slider. Basically each post is going to be 1 slide for the slider. Here you can see I’ve already got one slide setup and all you need to do is give it a featured image and if you want enter your optional data into these meta boxes.

Blog posts are just like usual, nothing special here. Just add your post content, upload your featured image and publish.

Adding portfolio posts is very simple. These function just like regular posts. Just add your content, select your featured image and you are done. Now the portfolio support sliders as well. So if you want multiple images on a portfolio page all you need to do is upload them to the post so that they become “image attachments”. As you can see on the post any image uploaded is automatically added to the slider. And of course you can re-arrange these by opening the media tab and dragging and dropping them into the order you wish then saving.

Now to create a blog page and portfolio page you’ll want to create regular pages and select the appropriate template. So for example for the blog I would go under the Page Attributes section and select the blog template and for the portfolio I would do the same but select the portfolio template. Once published the template files will automatically show your posts according to the template selected.

    Hi,

Nice to have this comment activated. I setup everything and it seems that there is only 2 recent work posts showing up, I have published 6 portfolios so I would like to have it at 4 displayed as just like your demo.

Also a follow up, there is no right and left nav keys on the portfolio slider on my posts. I wanted to display the nav keys.

You’ll have to edit your js and css for that. Looks like you provide web design services, so you should be able to manage that customization. Otherwise you can contact my partner at Tweaky for a quote.

There should be a setting in the theme panel for this.

There is nothing in the theme settings AJ for this. I wanted to use this theme as a sample to showcase your work or theme. The site has content already, just using the site for this theme. Almost done, except for the portfolio display. Thanks

Oh you are correct. It just shows 4 by default. Please see index.php line 73:

      ‘numberposts’ => ’4′

  5. Valery says:

AJ, thanks a lot for your quickly answer, I can fixed but when I´m going to each post of Portolio the picture appears at right and left there´s a type of slideshow that it doesn´t works. http://wpexplorer.me/demo.php?theme=adapt On this example I see picture at left, text at right and for more info you have the shortcode.

    • AJ Clarke | WPExplorer says:

You are inserting your images to the post. It’s unnecessary, simply upload the images you want to show up and it works automatically – any image that appears in the media pop-up under the drop-down “uploaded to this post” will automatically show up in the slider.

    - The nav. menu (top right) doesn’t show up
    - The homepage doesn’t show te Recent Work items. ( LE16.nl )
    - Uploading images show this error : unable to create wp-content/uploads

I studied your video which suggest automatic appearances

Hope you can help me out

    Best regards
    Olaf

      - Menu should be setup under Appearance->Menu
      - Have you added them under the post type and they each have a featured image?
      - You might have to change your server permissions – please research this, this is a server issue.

    Quick questions:
Your preview shows the main portfolio pages as having 4 columns but mine shows up as only 2. Any idea where I can change this setting?

    Thanks!

    • AJ Clarke | WPExplorer says:

Something must be conflicting with your theme. I can’t really assist here, check your site with firebug to make sure.

    • AJ Clarke | WPExplorer says:

Should be, although you will possibly have issues with pagination and require an update. You can have a look at the setup for the “Neptune” theme so you can see how front-page.php is setup.
