The Best Review Plugins for WordPress

Most bloggers love to review their favorite products. If we really like a product or service, and believe that it is genuinely helpful, won’t we recommend it to our friends and family? Of course we would! It’s human nature.

We’re all WordPress fanatics here, aren’t we? I’m going to take that as a yes. So it’s safe to say that we must be using some kind of WordPress product – be it a plugin or a theme or a service that we really, really like. So much so, that we won’t be able to work without it. Naturally, we might want to recommend this product to our peers. Or in our case, our readers and blog followers.

That’s why we’ve come up with this WordPress plugin round-up of the best review plugins for WordPress. Using the plugins mentioned in this list, you will be able to create eye-catching reviews in the fastest possible time!

Why Add Reviews

The idea behind reviewing a product is simple. It’s informing the reader about the usefulness of the product. Basically, a product review says the following:

Hey look, I love this product and I think you’ll find it very useful too!

Reviews also provide a form of social proof. In fact, over 90% of people buying on Amazon wouldn’t purchase an item with less than three stars.

But the ultimate purpose of a review is to get someone to buy the product you’re recommending. That’s strictly from a marketing standpoint. A review must be unbiased. It should weigh pros and cons of the product.

No product is perfect – every new one is an improvement over its predecessor

Now that we’ve taken a short course on Reviewing Products 101, let’s dig into the plugin list.

WP Review is a customizable, lightweight plugin to add a review to your WordPress site. It can add a review in three ways: star, point and percent.

At any point of time, you can shift from one to another by changing the settings in the plugin’s setting page. The ratings can display before or after the content, and with the help of a shortcode, right within the content. You can change colors site wide or on a post by post basis. As and when a user clicks to rate, the average is automatically computed and displays along with the number of votes. Users have an option to leave their own reviews, and you can opt whether or not to display those reviews below your own review.

Finally, the plugin is developer friendly with a number of filters to blend with the display with your theme. When it comes to support, it’s free for registered users of the plugin. Other features:

In order to create a clean and organized review of a product, it is necessary that we follow a fixed order. The way you review the product – for example the images and feature comparison lists that you use, can be unique to your site. Add a personal touch, if you will. But you must have a consistent format in all your reviews. Not only does this keeps your site organized, it also speaks volumes about your attention to detail. As a result, your readership will increase.

As always, we would love your input. What’s your favorite WordPress review plugin? Did we miss it? Let us know in the comments below!

all set to use wp customer review and then I notice is has not been updated for more than a year and is compatible up to version 3.6 of wordpress

Could you please let your loyal readers know these things in your columns

    Thank you

    • AJ Clarke

If a plugin is coded correctly, it doesn’t always need to be updated. Sometimes authors forget to change what version of WordPress the plugin is compatible up to, however, it may still very well work just fine. Also a lot of our readers are developers and they’ll just download the plugin and modify it to their needs anyway and if they locate an issue they will fix it, thats why we’ll still share great plugins even if they may not have been updated so recently.

Hi! I am wondering if there is a plugin that could support other Custom Post Types than it’s own. i.e. I have a plugin that created Students as a category of users for a CPT Courses. Could any of these plugins accept Students for leaving review on Courses?

    • AJ Clarke

It honestly sounds like you may need to create a custom plugin for this. It’s definitely possible to do this, but this request is too specific to your current setup. I would contact the developers of the plugin you are using and maybe they can recommend the best solutions.

It’s probably because this post is a bit dated, but I’m surprised the Ultimate Reviews plugin isn’t listed. There are so many features and it’s updated quite frequently. The premium upgrade was worth it and really inexpensive. Great, responsive support team too.
